Chiron is a wise centaur in Greek mythology, revered for his knowledge of medicine, healing, and prophecy. Unlike other centaurs—who were often wild and unruly—Chiron was intelligent, kind, and deeply cultured, said to be the tutor of many great heroes including Asclepius, Achilles, and Heracles.
He is known as the “wounded healer” because, despite his vast healing abilities, he suffered a wound that he could not heal himself. According to myth, he was accidentally struck by a poisoned arrow from Heracles. Being immortal, he could not die, yet the pain was unbearable. His suffering gave him profound compassion and insight, making him an even more powerful and empathetic healer.
